One of the most beautiful places in Africa must be the very Southern tip of the continent. There are amazing panoramas of the sea, with its rugged coast, and the waves that continuously attack it, and there are unforgettable landscapes. Driving through neighbourhoods where incredibly beautiful houses were constructed, on all sides covered by flowers... I enjoyed the national park around the Cape. But I equally enjoyed the sunset that night on the other side of the same bay. If you are lucky, like I was, you can even see whales in this bay.
Driving on along the coast, it is possible to stop at nearly every curve for another picture, another view, another sniff of salty air. From the coast, it is possible to turn inland and cross a mountain pass which brings you to a different landscape, lonely mountains, stretches of land. Following this road, you end up in the famous wine area.
This is something completely different. Suddenly the temperature is much higher, in the hidden valleys, where a lot of chateaus are located. Many of them are open to visits, to taste wines, to see how wines are produced. Although far from home, Dutch history is visible also here: in the names of the villages, in the architecture. A dissonant in all this beauty was certainly to see townships upon re-entering the Cape Town area. It once again makes one realize that the country is unique in the world, both in beauty and recent history...
