On the way from Esfahan to Teheran, we made a stopover in the town of Kashan. Along the way we marvelled at the landscapes, which unfortunately were covered by clouds of sand as we approached our destination. When we finally reached Kashan, the view was seriously limited and the air seemed full of sand. We directly went to Khan e Borujerd.
After the colourful display of Islamic brilliance, this residence-turned-museum allowed us a look into something completely different. The inner courtyard contains a pool reflecting the inner walls. Lovely flowers line the sides, and the paths lead you to the main building which was under repair. Many parts were still unadorned, but in one case we could already see how the final result will look like.
Prettily painted curves, meticulously decorated details, mostly in red, white and blue, make the interiors of this building a colourful sight. Finally, we climbed the roof from where we could clearly see some of the windtunnels which provide for fresh air throughout the building. The system is intelligent as well as straightforward: it collects the breezes of air and forces them through tunnels in the entire building.
