The Mediterranean bassin consists of many different countries who all share a piece of coastline with the Mediterranean sea. One of those is Tel Aviv. The waterfront plays an important part in life in the city. Many people flock around the boulevard, lie on the beach or have dinner in a seaside restaurant. There is something for everyone, and you can see complete families, often with their dogs, young lovers, as well as old people protecting themselves with sweaters and trousers.
On the beach people lie down to enjoy the sun, but they also play racketball, go jogging or sailing or read a book. At times it seems unbelievable that this is a country virtually at war. Only yesterday a bomb made some more victims, and you never know when and where the next strike will be. Meanwhile, life seems to go on as usual.
And while the sun goes down, the temperature drops quite rapidly but the colours of the beach, sea and buildings intensify, grow deeper, and set everything in an orange glow. Within hours, you have to add a few layers of clothing to be able to remain outside. The eternal sound of the breakers remains. All seems quiet at the Tel Aviv Waterfront.
