Walking around the streets of Milan, you can see many works of art almost anywhere on the walls of buildings. Likewise, otherwise unnoticeable houses become works of art because of the figures cared out in stone in the facades. To me, it became a challenge to find more sculptures, to enjoy more open air art.
Sculptures come in the form of an angel, a philosophical looking wise man, and also lazy figures of a man lying down. They all make you stop for a moment, trying to grasp the meaning of the sculpture, the message that the sculpture tries to convey. Lightness, solemnity, philosophy, seriousness, sanctity, laziness: they are all depicted at various locations on the walls of Milan's centre.
Some of the sculptures are almost hidden in the decorations of a building, sometimes they are prominently sticking out of them. It is also possible to discover them under an arch, sitting on top of a roof, or looking down at you from a pedestal. Wherever you find them, they make you remind that Italy is a country of art and of art loving people.
