Lying on the outskirts of the Old Town centre, St Anne's church definitely deserves a place on any walking tour through the city. Its very explicit Gothic architecture, its bricks in a colour which gives it a natural look - by the way, there are 33 different types of colour brick used! - and its gracious interior all are reasons for a visit. 
The church is actually such a beauty that Napoleon himself, on one of his conquest campaigns in this part of Europe, wished that he could take it back to Paris with him 'in the palm of his hands'. It is a strange idea indeed, that the great conqueror actually looked at the very same church we can now freely see for ourselves. It is also great that Napoleon's hands weren't big enough.
After seeing the church, be sure to walk on the right hand side into the park, and follow the little stream on the right of you which will end in the Neris river further downstream. It is actually possible to walk all the way along with the river in a pleasant city park. You will not be able to see St Anne's, however, because from the back she is protected by the former St Bernardine's monastery and remnants of the city wall.
