Including Toronto in this collection of travel stories has two important reasons for me. My very first trip as a flight attendant was to this city. I will never forget the awe with which I watched the highrise buildings, with which I watched down CN tower. Also, I will never forget the jetlag when I arrived back home the next day....
The more important reasons is, that I met two very dear friends, Mark and Marilyn, in 1990 in the North of Chile who appeared to live in Toronto. They have always been an inspiration for me, because they were so fond of travelling. They were actually so fond of travelling that they did everything to be able to travel as much as possible. I had the pleasure of receiving Mark, in my home in The Netherlands.
I had a complete shock when in July 1998, I received an email about a tragic accident that had occurred in the far North of Canada. In this accident, both Mark and Marilyn perished. As to the moment of writing these lines, I have not been able to comprehend how this young couple could be taken away so early. The only consolation I have, is that they really enjoyed their lives to the maximum. May they rest in peace.
