Apart from the world-famous beaches in Rio, there are a lot of other settlements near the ocean in Brazil which deserve a visit. Some of them, like Paraty, are very picturesque and not yet as developed as Buzios. This village is quiet, getting more touristy, but still retaining the charm and tranquillity it must have had already since its creation. Streets are made with huge cobblestones, houses are not high and breathe peace.
I decided to walk around early in the morning and the town was almost empty, no people, no cars, every now and then a horse was trying to pull forward a cart, stimulated by its owner. It was like stepping back in time.
There is a small harbour where colourful boats await their next trip, and from where the bay of Paraty can be fully enjoyed. This village is a true fisher's village, and I found a small stable on a square where Joseph and Mary were depicted (it was just a few weeks after Christmas), and they were depicted as fishermen. A trip with a sailboat in the neighbouring bays made my visit complete.
