Budget BreaksWithin the current economic climate, some of us will have to scrap the summer holiday this year in order to maintain control over our finances. However, it may not be the case that we must sacrifice any kind of holiday altogether. If you get rid of the expensive hotels and the hidden costs of package deals, there are, in fact, plenty of ways to get away from it all without breaking the bank. You could consider a domestic holiday and stay in Britain, making the most of the fine weather predicted for this summer and learning a little more about the variety available within your home land. Whether it's a country break in the Cotswolds or the Lake District, or perhaps a city break in Edinburgh or Cardiff, there is certainly plenty going on across our small island in summer 2009. If you're anxious to get to fresh shores and sunnier climbs then you could consider a camping holiday instead of the usual hotel with pool. If you are travelling with children it will be cheaper to fill up the car and head to central France than to buy separate airline tickets for each of you, and the kids will love getting to grips with the great outdoors. Camping holidays are something that are now frequently associated with life a couple of generations ago, but perhaps the credit crunch will encourage us to rediscover the appeal. If you are taking a short break away with your partner you might be concerned about being able to get in touch with the kids, or even colleagues, friends and other family members, whilst you're enjoying your holiday. If you're not already signed up with a provider, try Vodafone. Their mobile phone deals this summer include a promotion that could save you a packet. From June to August, calls cost the same across Europe as they do at home. You can simply pick up their sim cards, with sufficient credit to last the duration of your holiday, and save yourself a few pounds off the extortionate phone bill you would have returned to otherwise. From budget airline flights, to cheap self catering accommodation, there's no real reason you should miss out on all the summer fun this year. Think creatively about how you can make your money go further, and don't miss out on a budget break.
